Our first farm walk of the season will be hosted by Mary & Andy Dawe at their holding near Tavernspite. We will have our walk before lunch and then after lunch there will be an auction for those items and services you may be able to offer that you have bought along. For large items, e.g. tractors, please just bring a picture and description. Business will be conducted by Nigel Hodson and 10% of the sale price will go to the DSA. For directions, take a look at your newsletter.

Wednesday 11th May 8:00pm. Monthly meeting at Carmarthen Veterinary Centre.

Helen Scott from CVC will talk on the exciting subject of ticks, lice and diseases transmittable to humans. Actually very necessary knowledge for smallholders especially those of a certain gender and age with young children around.

Saturday 21st May. St Clears Show

We will once again have a stand at the show. Please come along and support the DSA. Why not produce an information poster for display about your holding or business? This is an opportunity to sell produce from your holding, i.e. Plants, crafts and preserved but not fresh food. For more information, get in touch.

April 2016 Meeting & Events

Sunday 10th April 10:30am. An introduction to working horses near Haverfordwest.
An opportunity to get hands on with horses pulling things around the holding. This is a basic introduction to harness horses so don’t expect a masterclass. For more information contact Peat using this link and make your message for the attention of Newsletter Editor.

Wednesday 13th April 8:00pm. Monthly meeting at Carmarthen Veterinary Centre.
An evening of information and advice on the conservation and management of woodland with Alan Pritchard. Come along and benefit from Alan’s many years of professional expertise in the field. The information will also be applicable to your hedgerows.
Meeting Notes
Spending the evening of your birthday talking to the DSA may not be every-ones’ first choice but Alan did just that to explain woodland conservation to us, and yes he did get a birthday cake for his efforts. It is important to decide what you want from your firewood is one of those things but many years ago timber for building ships was important so some trees were left to grow large. A hurdle maker would want lots of coppiced Hazel. A proper wood consists of a canopy of large trees, an understory of shrubby trees and a ground layer of plants such as brambles and dead vegetation. This under is an important habitat for fungi, invertebrates and small mammals. For more details see your Newsletter.

DSA’s Annual General Meeting will be held on the 11th of February 2015, and we’d really like you to be there! Whilst AGMs might not seem to be the most interesting of our meetings, they are perhaps the most important. This is your Association, and this is your chance to have your say. You’ll get to hear how the year has gone, and be a part of electing a new committee, (including you if you like!) The meeting is on the 11th of February at the normal time and place, 8.00 PM, The Gremlin Club, Carmarthen.
