Wednesday 13th April 8:00pm. Monthly meeting at Carmarthen Veterinary Centre.
An evening of information and advice on the conservation and management of woodland with Alan Pritchard. Come along and benefit from Alan’s many years of professional expertise in the field. The information will also be applicable to your hedgerows.
Meeting Notes
Spending the evening of your birthday talking to the DSA may not be every-ones’ first choice but Alan did just that to explain woodland conservation to us, and yes he did get a birthday cake for his efforts. It is important to decide what you want from your firewood is one of those things but many years ago timber for building ships was important so some trees were left to grow large. A hurdle maker would want lots of coppiced Hazel. A proper wood consists of a canopy of large trees, an understory of shrubby trees and a ground layer of plants such as brambles and dead vegetation. This under is an important habitat for fungi, invertebrates and small mammals. For more details see your Newsletter.
