Tours have been going since Dec 08, always full and full of appreciation.
We visit 8 homes, talk to the occupants about their green technologies, materials, activities.
Includes wind, water, sun, woods and ground source power and heating.
Also electric bikes, lime renders, sustainable green and hardwood furniture, long-life washing machines, waste oil biodiesel etc
Quite a range of houses, especially in price, from £1,000 to £200,000 construction costs.
Personally I think the super-efficient wood ranges are very important along with solar hot water panels.
For renewable electricity hydro is outstanding, wind works, PV is brilliant for pumping, people with GSP swear by it. Fascinating to visit and hear for yourself.
The range of costs is very significant in tomorrows crunchy world.
Sharing is an invaluable ingredient, veg gardens, houses, equipment, skills. Something I am learning to do a bit better.
The walk is about 3 miles, along quiet roads and footpaths, some muddy.
You get a sense of a transition hamlet without a consitution or any formal structure, just like-minded neighbours, a shared direction of travel.
