We've received the following invite:
Hi we are the Jersey Farm at Llangoedmor, Cardigan and we milk about 20 Jersey Cows on our small holding, specialising in the production of Butter and Cream.
This year we have a problem because most of our calves have been bull calves and we hate to destroy them, but we are very short of winter housing. The calves grow into excellent lean and tender beef and are top pedigree if anyone requires a working bull. The herd is TB clear and we have never had BSE etc.
Some of the bull calves can go straight away without premovement testing costs, the others are bigger. They are all cheap wtih prices starting at £10 to cover the cost of eartags.
If anyone is interested, members or non-members, drop me an email, Nigel Brookes, using the "contact us" link in the menu bar above and I'll pass on your details. |

I have had an enquiry from a gentleman in Devon who is interested in Sheep Bells. He is contacting many smallholder Associations to find out if they are still used, what they are generally made of and if some of the things he has heard about them can be verified such as they are tuned in 5ths which makes the distinction easier as the perfect 5th is the simplest interval to hear. Please reply to John Birtles via email or telephone.
If anyone can give me any information I would be grateful |

The October meeting saw a presentation from Dan Blackburn from Veg Oil Motoring. Here we learnt what is involved in running your diesel engine on straight vegetable oils and the different ways a conversion from diesel can be achieved. There are a number of grants available for people living in Pembrokeshire (and those four miles from the border) which will halve the cost of the conversion. The grants are available until March 2009. |

Many members have suggested that the committee should move DSA events around our local area, to give everyone a chance to have an event near them. We thought we'd try a new venue for the NYL. For new members, this is a sit-down lunch to celebrate the New Year, held on a Sunday in January. We've opened a poll up on the website for you to vote for your favourite choice from the following...
The Poll can be found on the homepage and is open to members only. |

The DSA is going bowling at CC2000 next to Oakwood Theme Park and it is still possible for DSA smallholders to join in as the venue still has free lanes on the Saturday afternoon in addition to those we have already reserved. We have trophies and some great prizes for the lucky winners of best female score, best male score and best lane score and some prizes for those of us who do not do so well. The cost will be about £6.65 for the lane hire for 2 hours per person and afterwards those feeling adventurous and competitive might like to give the Crystal Maze a go - just like it was on the TV. All in all a fun afternoon so if you want to come along use the contact us button above to email me or telephone me John Birtles and you will find my number is on the committee section page of the members only link above and leave your name or names on the answer phone and nearer the date I will get back to you with final details. The Bowling venue asked that people arrive at 13.45 so that they can all get their shoes sorted out before a 2pm start. So go on do something a bit different for a change! |
